[As the title says, he's a book doctor. Okay for real, he's a traveling bookbinder although he has a home in Ul'dah. He's also a conjurer to keep himself out of trouble while traveling and also sometimes joins in on adventuring parties if a healer is needed, otherwise he's a nerdy mcnerd, reading all the time or fixing said books.
Dreams to one day open his own shop in the Sapphire Exchange so he can settle down for good. But is content where he is at for now as well.
Mild-mannered, quiet, and easy-going. He eats way too much and is probably too kind for his own good. The type to give too much and receive very little. He is a WIP, please be gentle.]
[Part of being an adventurer is following rumors, and although Aurora's adventuring days are for the most part over, today she's putting that skill to the test. A recent escort mission into a dungeon landed her a rare copy of a very old book found in the depths of the hold. It isn't something that really interested her personally, but her boyfriend, Ringabel, is a scholar by trade and book lover. It seems like the perfect gift for him!
The only problem was...well it's totally falling apart. Luckily most of the pages seem to be there, but she had to wrap it up in a cloth to prevent anything else happening to it. The spine was totally busted and the cover destroyed with water damage. Maybe there was no hope for the poor thing, but she wanted to try anyway.
The rumors bring Aurora to The Quicksand, where she keeps her eyes peeled for her target. Luckily the miqo'te with green hair stands out, and she waddles over to him with a smile.]
Pardon me, but are you perchance the "Book Doctor?"
[And indeed, he was at The Quicksand. Matthias' ears flicked at the name, and he hurriedly finished the food he'd had in his mouth, washing it down with tea as he nodded.]
Er, yes, my apologies. Yes, I am often referred to as the Book Doctor. My name is Matthias, my actual title is bookbinder. [He laughed softly, standing to bow in introduction.] I presume you have a book you would like me to mend?
[Aurora has to reach up to slide the book over to him and then takes the nearest seat at his table. She tries to flag down a server once she's settled.]
I found it on my last escort mission. Not sure if it's slavable but if it is I would like to give it as a gift to my partner.
[He took the book gingerly, pushing his food and drink aside to get a better look at the damaged tome. He didn't answer right away as he was eager to see just what could be done first. He opened the cloth to reveal the waterlogged cover and damaged spine. He made a soft sound, carefully opening the book to also check the pages.
Thankfully, none seemed too worse for wear. Some were clearly waterlogged as well but have seemingly dried in that crinkly fashion. There were ways to get around that, but the most concerning was the busted spine. Still, it didn't look hopeless. The cover would need to be replaced, rather than repaired, and the book rebound to create a new spine. A far more damaged book than he was used to, but not impossible.]
I believe this is salvageable, yes. [He gave her a smile.] It may take some time, however. Would there be a specific time this needs to be done? I will need a closer look before I am able to provide a suitable timetable, but if there is a deadline, I would need to know.
Felih is a man on a mission- and it's mostly because he too is a lover of books, and also very, very upset about the state of many books he's come across in his travels. But no, today, he has a huge project, and he needs as many bookmenders as he can find...
Still, he thinks he's found one, and he trots up after him, pawing at his elbow. "Hey- hey, excuse me, are you Matthias Oschon?" he asks. He got a vague description of the man, but still, there's so many dark-haired Miqo'te about... he may have the wrong man, but his aura seems to be the bookish type. "The tome mender?"
Matthias started at the pawing at his elbow. His ears twitch in surprise and he turned, adjusting his spectacles a bit. "U-Um, yes. I am. What can I do for you?"
Coincidentally, he had a pile of books in his arms, meant for another patron at the moment. But he could wait to hear the man out.
Felih perks up immediately, the short Miqo'te puffing up in delight, ears forward in friendly delight. "Perfect! I got your name from the Alchemists' guild- said you'd helped them repair some of their old record and recipes tomes. You're- oh!" he pauses, noticing the pile of books in his arms.
He may be small, but he's strong, and he holds out his hands. "Need some help carrying those? If you'll hear me out, we can walk and talk. I've got a bit of a big job- I've found... a lot of books that could use some tender, loving care."
[Hey so, I would absolutely lOVE to help Matthias fund his store dream, as Pinya is a high ranking and like, stupidly wealthy Ul'dahn of the widely-known Colada Clan and though will not just give the money away, will happily strike up a deal of mutual benefit between the two!!" How would you like to do this?]]

How wonderful! I'm very excited to hear that; thank you! There is no real deadline for this. I just want it to be a surprise for him.
[She smiles up at the server who finally comes to them and orders a round for them both. Time to celebrate!]

Of course. I will surely do my best, then.
[He wasn't much of a drinker, but he wouldn't stop a happy woman from celebrating.]
